Tiny House Project
Piedmont Community Service Crew (PCSC) prides itself on being much more than a club of teens looking for service hours to brag about. PCSC is youth-led, under the guidance of an adult advisor, and has evolved over its 15 years to where the crew members plan challenging projects and raises funding to cover costs for much of the philanthropic undertakings that PCSC takes on. This fall, PCSC is excited to announce a new challenge: to build a Tiny House that will eventually provide housing for an otherwise homeless teen in Oakland. This project, in collaboration with Youth Spirit Artworks (YSA), was initiated last spring by Sofia Stahl, one of the PCSC VPs. Though generous support from our crew and neighbors, we were able to raise the $12,500 on very short notice to sponsor this house.
The actual house build will take place over 8 to 10 work days throughout September and October where we anticipate a total effort of nearly 1000 volunteer hours!
Now is a great time for teens to join PCSC and partake in this and many other exclusive service events which are rewarding and fun! Adults that want to get involved are also invited to learn more by contacting our crew advisor.
During the months of our tiny house build, PCSC will continue to do its usual work with the Alameda County Community Food Bank, cooking and serving the homeless on weekends, tutoring Burmese refugee children, etc.
