Sue Smegal Silver Beaver Recipient 2021
Sue has quietly and competently worked behind the scenes for decades. For many years, her service on the Piedmont Council’s Executive Board, Advisory Board, and her continuing service on the Eagle Board of Review has upheld the Council’s mission to support youth and families throughout the community.
Prior to that time she was an active volunteer supporter of Troop 15 when her son was in scouts, serving in various unit roles. She’s never sought recognition, and has consistently served youth in our community with humble and skilled service.
Outside of her work with Scouting, Sue served as a middle school teacher for 11 years. Prior to that, she served on the PUSD Board of Education for two terms. Sue was recently recognized with the Art Hecht Volunteer of the Year Award by the Piedmont Unified School District for over 45 years of youth-focused service.
She also served with several other nonprofits, including the Ann Martin Center, Hill Branch Children’s Hospital Oakland, and the Alameda county Child Abuse Prevention Task Force.
She clearly lives the value of “Always Kids First!”.
