March Highlander Hike
Bridgeview Trail to Old Cañon
Length – 2.8 mi / Elevation gain – 433 ft / Route type: Out & Back
Bridgeview Trail to Old Cañon is a 2.8 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Oakland, California that features a river and is great for all skill levels. It offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are welcome to walk with you on this trail.
Getting There
The first half mile of the trail takes you over a bridge, up a hill, and brings you adjacent to a golf course. You’ll pass by a bunch of tree swings and arrive at a path marker where you’ll turn right and head down the hill via a series of switchbacks. At the bottom of the hill, you can either go up the other side to Old Cañon Trail (has the potential to be overgrown), or follow the creek for Dimond Bridgeview (water level can affect this trail). This trail follows Old Cañon as it continues along the hillside up from the creek. You’ll go under the Leimert Blvd bridge and reach an intersection. From here, the route turns around and goes back, but if you want to keep hiking, continue straight to Benevides Ave. Taking a left brings you back down to the creek and the Diamond Bridgeview Trail. Once you reach the creek, you’ll want to cross it and turn right. There is a board and some rocks that will help you to cross. After that, the trail takes you right and back to Dimond Park.
