How the Piedmont Scouting is Funded and Ways to Support it

The Piedmont Council is funded entirely through support from the community primarily from three sources in roughly equal parts:

  • Friends of Scouting (annual gifts from Board members, parents and members of the community)
  • Christmas Tree Sales (proceeds from annual sales of Christmas trees in December fund the next year’s operations)
  • Endowment Fund (cash gifts and bequests to the council, from which the annual income/interest only is used to the fund current operations)
  • Donate a Car (proceeds stay in the community to support traditional Scout activities, and our newer programs for boys and girls)

These funds pay staff salaries, for service to units, training of volunteer leaders, organization of special program events (Camporee, Jamboree, Pinewood Derby etc.) and operation of the local council office. The council relies on the financial support of the community for its fiscal strength, just as it relies on volunteer support for program strength.
